My Ecological Food-Footprint

Image
Access my weekly food habits through this padlet. Have you ever considered the difference between grass-fed beef and feedlot beef? It isn't just the welfare of the animal that stands out between the two different agricultural techniques for me, but the natural processes that are taken into consideration within one system and the lack thereof in the other (Matsumoto, 2019). When considering sustainable food choices for my family I not only consider the ecological footprint that is accumulated by my purchases but also the conditions in which the animals are raised, the ability for the animals to exist in their most natural element (behaviours, feed etc.) and the love put into the farming practice. I truly believe the food we eat shares its energy with us and the energy I put into the preparations of the food is accumulated into the energies passed on to all those it nourishes. According to the Global Footprint Network my global footprint is 3.8 planets. The solutions it offers are co...

The Light Cellar- Social Entrepreneur

✨ Malcolm Saunders @ The Light Cellar ✨ Meet Malcolm Saunders, the visionary behind The Light Cellar, a local superfood haven nestled on Main Street in Bowness, Calgary, Alberta. The Light Cellar Interview The Light Cellar is a place where you can go to find the type of thing that not every grocery store will have; a food so tasty that you just can’t believe it doesn’t have sugar! A tea for one ailment, a herb for another. An alternative to the regular pantry. A place where you leave feeling not just nourished by food but wrapped in a hug of light, love and community. ✨ Pure Magic ✨ From the moment I stepped foot into The Light Cellar, I knew I had found something unique. Consumerism and Materialism: A Reflective Journal

Sunday Oct. 22nd Today I got a haircut. I needed a haircut, as it was long overdue. My sister is getting married at Christmas time and I need it to be "grown into" my new look by then. It was a timely purchase/service that needed to be done. I did however purchase a styling cream, which was very out of character and somewhat of an impulsive purchase, as I felt at that moment that I needed something to help keep the style in my hair. My hair is so thin and flat. My stylist always makes it look so beautiful and full! She works magic with products I don't own. So this time I purchased a product hoping it will help bring my hair back to life. Alas, when I used it today, my hair was having nothing of it- lol. So, I sit here (Monday) with flat hair. This was a very relevant and needed purchase as I returned to work after a leave because of an injury. My injury really put me out and left me feeling defeated, over run, physically unfit, mentally at full capacity and with not a lo...

How are we all interconnected?

Image
How are we all interconnected? We live in a world of systems, all interconnected and operating in unison, therefor it becomes important to understand where these systems connect. (Ragnarsdottir, K.V. 2022). Earth's Systems There are five main systems on Earth (National Geographic Society, 2022) the Geosphere,  Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Biosphere and finally the Cryosphere. All life on Earth relies on the interactions between these systems. Within these systems exists what we know more commonly as rocks, air, water, the movement of energy and matter and all plants, animals, and bacteria. Together each part plays an important role, each a piece of the puzzle to a much greater whole- life on Earth. Life on Earth Life on earth is a continous pattern of interactions between living things and non-living elements within the different systems on earth, such as air, water, rocks and soil (Van Ham, C. 2018). Life on earth can be found at the darkest depths of the ocean, all the way to th...
